Most wireless networks like wifi, cellular phones, bluetooth rely on the the existence of a base station equipped with special hardware and software providing the backbone of the network. Ad-hoc networks do not need such base station and thus are infrastructureless. Mobile ad-hoc networks can be seen as an alternative solution to interconnecting network devices.This lecture gives an introduction into the challenges, models and results in this area, like Routing Protocols, Medium Access (MAC), Topology Control, Directed Communication, Random Placement, theoretical limits, and the impact of mobility.
The lecture is organized as follows:
- 3 hours of lecture and 1 hour exercise (3V+1Ü SWS)
- Special lecture for master students for computer science
